Professional career and research topics

Professor Gerard van den Berg gained his BA in econometrics in 1983 and his BA in philosophy in 1984 at the University of Groningen (Netherlands).There also, he completed his MA in econometrics in 1985. In 1990 he gained his doctorate at the Chair for Econometrics of the University of Tilburg. Among other things, he was Professor at the Free University of Amsterdam, Princeton University and the Stockholm School of Economics before accepting the position of an Alexander von Humboldt Professor of Econometrics and Empirical Economics at the University of Mannheim in 2009, which he held until 2015. Since 2015 he has been Professor of Economics at the University of Bristol. He has also been a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of IAB since 2013.

The focal points of his research are unemployment, job mobility, active labor market programs, program evaluation and interrelation between health and labor.
