Professional career

From 1998 to 2004 Stefan Bernhard studied Sociology at the Universities of Bamberg and Galway (Ireland). Subsequently he worked as assistant at the chair of sociological theory in Bamberg. For the following three years he hold a scholarship in the doctoral programme “Markets and Social Systems in Europe” and wrote a Ph.D. on social fields and the sociology of European social policy. Since October 2008 he has been working in the Institute for Employment Research (IAB). Stefan Bernhard is currently working on a project on refugees in Germany. His research includes publications on qualitative methods, network analyses, and the sociology of markets (habilitation), and on European integration and sociology following the concept of Pierre Bourdieu (dissertation).
