Sachsen - Grenznahe Lage dämpft positive Impulse aus Branchenschwerpunkten

"The paper analyses the development of employment in Saxony from 1995 to 2001. In particular, it focuses on two questions: what have been the results of the policy to promote industrial champions on the Saxon economy? How have the open frontiers to the Czech Republic and Poland affected Saxony? Both topics are analysed by different factors that have an influence on employment development (industry structure, firm size, qualifications, wage levels and regionspecific factors). The results show that a promotion of industrial champions is reflected in positive factors, such as industry structure and qualifications, whereas open frontiers represent a negative region-specific factor and have led to a relatively low wage level."
