Arbeitsmarktpolitische Herausforderungen aufgrund des demografischen Wandels

"The decline of the German economy seems to have come to an end in the second quarter of 2010. In the long term, the German labour market is likely to be characterized by the megatrend 'demographic change'. At the same time, however, one must not forget that demographic change is embedded in a more general social and economic structural change. Using data and projections of the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) and the German Federal Statistical Office (StBA), the article substantiates the following eight assertions on how the labour market in Germany could develop in the coming decades:
Assertion 1: We will get older first, then less
Assertion 2: The labour supply potential drops and ages in a demographically determined way
Assertion 3: Germany will not run out of work
Assertion 4: The German economy will have a high requirement for qualified workers in the future
Assertion 5: For demographically determined reasons, there could be bottlenecks in qualified workers> Assertion 7: The labour force potential for women can be increased mainly in respect to quality but hardly any more in respect to quantity
Assertion 8: Older workers could be a reserve of personnel if it is possible to keep future (!) old people fit." (Text excerpt, IAB-Doku) ((en))
