Ein-Euro-Jobs aus Sicht der Betroffenen

"Despite of the fact that the number of participants has been decreasing lately, so-called one-euro jobs are still one of the most prevalent activation scheme for recipients of the new German basic income support, or 'Unemployment Benefit II'. This scheme should be used mainly as an ultima ratio measure to increase the employment chances of the long-term unemployed. However, recent research has shown that one-euro jobs are not very successful at (re-)integrating benefit recipients into the regular labour market. Therefore, we think that it is appropriate to shift focus to alternative goals of this measure. Consequently, this article concentrates on improvements regarding the social integration of participants. The analyses are based on data from a representative survey, in which respondents were asked about their subjective evaluation of different aspects of one-euro jobs. Results show that participants indeed judge improvements in social integration to be the most positive aspect of this measure. Nevertheless, the findings indicate that additional goals, such as using one-euro jobs to test the participants' willingness to work, may also, in all probability, reduce these positive effects."
