Autonomy at work and employee involvement: causes and consequences

The Institute for Employment Research (IAB) organises in cooperation with the Labour and Socio Economic Research Centre of the University Erlangen-Nuremberg (LASER) the conference.

The objective of the conference is to meet international labor, personnel, organizational, or behavioral economists who work on issues of the conference theme. We would like to invite researchers to submit both theoretical and empirical (including experimental) contributions that address questions such as

  • Why do firms delegate decision rights to workers and let them participate in firm decisions?
  • What distinguishes empowered workers from other less authorized and involved employees?
  • Do workers benefit from being authorized and involved (e.g., concerning job satisfaction, wage, work-life balance etc.)?
  • Do worker autonomy and involvement boost worker and/or firm performance?
  • What are the dark sides of worker autonomy and involvement (e.g., shirking, work intensification, health problems etc.)?

International speakers are going to present their recent studies at this conference.
