Professional career and research topics

Christina Gathmann finished her studies in economics and social sciences at the Humboldt University in Berlin in 1998 (Diplom-Volkswirtin/Diplom-Sozialwissenschaftlerin) and then gained her doctorate from the University of Chicago in 2004. After this she worked in a postdoctoral capacity at Stanford and was a "National Fellow" of the Hoover Institute from 2006 to 2007. From 2009 to 2011 she acted as Junior Professor at the University of Mannheim and has been a Professor of Labour Market Economics and New Political Economy at the Alfred Weber Institute of the University of Heidelberg since 2011. Professor Gathmann was appointed to the Scientific Advisory Council of IAB in 2013.

The main areas of her research lie in the fields of economics of the public sector, labour market economics, policy evaluation, migration, and new political economics.

Professor Gathmann has published the results of her research in numerous well-known journals, among them, the Journal of Labor Economics, the Economic Journal, the Journal of Public Economics und the Journal of Economic History.
